The Bachelor of Science in biology prepares students for challenging and rewarding careers in the life sciences.

The Bachelor of Science in biology program is delivered by highly qualified and dedicated faculty in a modern facility with access to current instrumentation. Graduates are qualified to enter advanced programs at the master's or doctoral levels or have career opportunities in laboratory, environmental, medical, dental, pharmaceutical, or veterinary fields.

Students work together with faculty in conducting field and laboratory research using state-of-the-art instruments. Their findings are often published in leading scientific publications and presented at state, regional, and national levels. Students can choose a broad training in biology or a more specific program for those seeking careers in the biomedical professions.

What can I do with a degree in Biology?

Graduates are qualified to enter advanced programs at the master’s or doctoral levels, or have career opportunities in laboratory, environmental, medical, dental, pharmaceutical, or veterinary fields. Some graduates choose to continue their education in medical school or graduate programs, while others begin their careers in one of many varied biological specialties including:

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the annual median wage for biology degree holders in 2022 was $70,000.


Program Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the biology program will be able to:

Related Degree

The teacher licensure option combines a core of life science courses with a foundation in curriculum and instructional study to prepare graduates to teach at the middle school and high school levels.


Minor

Biology
A minor in biology is also available for non-majors who are interested in a basic understanding of biology to provide a basis for advanced study.


Certificate of Proficiency

This 9-credit hour program provides curriculum designed for those in helping professions such as human services, health care organizations, educators, and others. Courses include Intermediate Spanish I, II, and Spanish for the Professions. Beginning Spanish I and II or required placement scores are prerequisites for Intermediate Spanish I.
