The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host its annual Octubafest on Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. This year marks the 20th year of the celebration at UAFS, where youth in grades 9-12, and adults from across the region come together to collaborate and perform on trombones, euphoniums, baritones, tubas, and more.
All low brass performers 9th grade and up are welcome to join, with check in beginning at 1 p.m., and a mass low brass play-along rehearsal beginning at 1:30.
Pizza and drinks will be provided for all participants at 4 p.m., followed by a free public concert at 5 p.m.
Audience members at the public concert will be treated to Austrian waltzes and polka favorites like Rosemunde, or Roll out the Barrel, performed by the UAFS Brass Ensemble, Die Löwenbande, UAFS Low Brass Ensemble, and the Mass Low Brass Ensemble.
Octubafest is observed around the nation and was founded by tuba legend Dr. Harvey Phillips, UAFS Professor of Low Brass and Director of Bands, Dr. Alexandra Zacharella said.
“The audience will find themselves cheering and clapping along!"
