McIntosh Named UAFS Director of First Year Advising

Written By: Ian Silvester

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith recently announced Kayla McIntosh as the new director of first-year advising.

The ROAR office oversees class scheduling and advising appointments for all first-year students at UAFS. McIntosh takes over the role following the retirement of former director Julie Mosley, who had worked for UAFS since 2003.

McIntosh, originally from Wisconsin, has worked in higher education since 2010, when she started as a part-time student worker for Housing and Residence Life at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She most recently served as the director of student support services at Arkansas Tech University – Ozark.

McIntosh also worked as a student success and ADA coordinator at ATU and as a resident director and instructor at Northern Arizona University. She said her experience in student success will allow her to manage the interconnectedness of the work in the ROAR office and across the UAFS campus.

“I look forward to the opportunity to help the ROAR meet the shifting needs of the university and student body with a focus on access, sense of belonging, and quality of service delivery,” McIntosh said. “I also look forward to building cross-campus relationships that will lead to improved collaboration to ensure a smooth transition for students, whether they are coming to us straight from high school, with an educational gap, transfer, or by any other means. They are all welcome here, and I am so happy to help get them where they need to be.”

She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on human resource management from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Master of Science in college student personnel from the University of Central Arkansas.

McIntosh and her partner have one child; a dog, Juno; two cats; and 13 chickens. She enjoys doing anything outdoors, ceramics, crafting, reading, and baking during her free time.
