Lion Voices: Brock Slater
Hey Lions! This week for our #LionVoices we have senior Electrical Engineering Technology Major, Brock Slater. Brock graduated from Southside High School and was a Fort Smith native. Though he originally planned to leave his hometown for university, the prestigious Roland S. Boreham Jr. Engineering Scholarship helped him make the decision to stay. "It created a very easy decision for me and is what brought me into this institution."
Once on campus, Brock quickly discovered the unique charm of UAFS. One of his favorite memories at the university was attending Cub Camp, where he met some of his lifelong friends. Reflecting on this experience, he shared, "I have never been a part of a more inviting organization, and love the energy that it brings out of people."
Brock says his passion for leadership has opened up additional career possibilities outside of traditional engineering pathways. "With my degree, I always planned to go into the manufacturing or Robot Automation field," he said. "However, now that I have had a chance to hold leadership positions on campus and learned how to plan and execute events and other activities, I have found a passion for it and have looked into other job opportunities, maybe even working in Higher Education."
Brock's life has been positively influenced by his mother's unwavering support, and that of his on-campus mentor, Pi Kappa Phi alumnus Trevor England. "Trevor helped guide me whenever I started to enter leadership positions within my fraternity but also outside of it with student events and activities."
For Lions
“The biggest advice I can give to anyone coming to UAFS is to get involved and get out of your comfort shell.”
