After earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Jason Merritt entered active duty in the U.S. Army where he served in a variety of leadership roles including platoon leader, executive officer, production manager, and ultimately company commander. Following his military service, he transitioned to The Home Depot as a general manager responsible for overseeing large-scale operations and organizational performance.

An unexpected opportunity later led him to Roswell, New Mexico, where he became a high school principal and head cross-country coach. This experience sparked his passion for education and leadership development, guiding him to accept a faculty position at UAFS in 2008 as an electronics instructor while also establishing the university’s cross-country program. He currently serves as an assistant professor in organizational leadership and electronics technology at UAFS.

In 2024 Dr. Merritt earned his Doctor of Psychology in human and organizational Psychology, completing his dissertation on stress appraisal and goal achievement. He also pursued advanced specializations in abnormal psychology, positive psychology, and the psychology of anxiety, mood disorders, substance abuse, and addictive behaviors.

Dr. Merritt is the author of "Peak Performance: Unlock the Science Behind Living an Extraordinary Life," a book that explores the psychology of achievement and human flourishing. In addition to his academic and professional roles, he is a motivational speaker focusing on inspirational leadership and the application of positive psychology to personal and organizational growth.
