Lion's Den


The Lion’s Den is the premiere suite-style residence hall at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. This 460-bed facility is a primarily first-year student community. Each suite is designed with the student in mind by providing loftable extra long twin beds, movable wardrobes, desks, and dressers, and task desk chairs. The open modular bathroom provides amenities for the student on the go, and only 4 – 5 students with share a bathroom in a suite. Each suite is located in a wing community with approximately 30 same-gender students, and each wing has a community lounge with a large screen TV and kitchenette. Adjacent to the Lion’s Den is a dining hall where students may enjoy fresh buffet style meals through flexible meal plans in a setting which is both convenient and comfortable.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Starting in Fall 2012, all residents will need to pay a $100 deposit while living in the Lion's Den. This deposit is due at the time the contract is signed. The deposit will be held until the student moves out of campus housing and will be released to the student's account. If there are Housing charges still on the student account, the deposit will cover those fees. If the fees are in excess of $100, the student will be required to pay the remaining balance. If there are no fees on the account, the deposit will be refunded, and a check will be mailed to the student.

What are learning communities?

Learning communities are a group of residents used confined in an area such as a wing, that have a common goal or emphasis on a topic they all have in common.

What is included in each suite?
All suites come loftable furniture, which includes:

  • Extra-Long Twin Bed
  • Desk and Desk Chair
  • Dresser
  • Pedestal with Lock
  • Wardrobe

What is loftable furniture?
Loftable furniture has the ability to be customized by the resident. For example, the bed has the ability to be put up in the air and have the desk underneath it.

What bills do I need to pay?
All utilities are included in the price.
A resident must pay for a meal plan, room, and deposit.

Is there a place to do laundry?
The Lion's Den has a laundry center on the first floor of each building that is open 24/7. These washers and dryers are for residents only.

Is there security?
The Lion's Den has an extensive video surveillance system, limited entry via card key access, and is regularly patrolled by U.P.D. and Residential Life staff.

Is there a place to study at The Lion's Den?

If you want a different atmosphere than your room, each floor of the Lion's Den offers common areas that maybe used for studying. Also, the Library is less that 100 yards from the Lion's Den.

Is there a Fitness Center?
The fitness center is located on-campus inside the Old Gym. It is available to all students registered in classes at UAFS.
