Surgical Technology Program Expenses


 

 

In addition to the UA Fort Smith tuition and fees per credit hour, Surgical Technology students will incur the following expenses:

 

 

 

 

  • All students enrolled in the College of Health Sciences will be assessed a laboratory fee of $25 per clinical course to cover the cost of medical liability insurance and a radiation monitoring program.

 

  • The cost of textbooks will vary each semester. The largest expense will occur in the first semester since those books will be used throughout the program. The estimated cost for books for the first semester is between $250 and $300.

 

  • Students are required to purchase uniforms to be worn in clinical education. At least 1 set of uniforms should be purchased at the beginning of the first semester. Specific details concerning uniforms will be discussed during the first day of class. The estimated cost for one set (top and pants) is $30. Appropriate shoes will be an additional expense. Total cost for uniforms and shoes is estimated at $110.

 

  • At the completion of the program, the student will write the National Certification Exam for Surgical Technologists. The cost of student membership in the Association of Surgical Technologists, the national organization, is $40. The cost of the exam is $190 with membership or $290 without membership. Students will be required to pay this by March 1st before graduation in May.
