Good Samaritan Clinic Receives Glucometers

The Good Samaritan Clinic in Fort Smith received a boost in their supply of glucometers, thanks to a group of nursing students from the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

Evan Breedlove, executive director of the clinic, came to UA Fort Smith on May 5 to accept the donation of 25 glucometers and related supplies. Making the presentation were seniors LaTonya Deloney, Andrea Jansen, William Jeff Ludlow and Kelly Shamblin, all of Fort Smith.

Breedlove said he appreciated the donation, since the clinic’s number of patient applications has increased within the past year as businesses have been forced to lay off workers due to the poor economy.

“Approximately 75 percent of our patients are diabetic,” said Breedlove. “Providing needed prescriptions and testing supplies is a huge part of our yearly budget. On behalf of the Clinic’s staff, Board of Directors, volunteers and especially the patients and their families, we want to thank the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith and the nursing program for the donation of the glucometers. This much needed equipment will be put to good use by the Clinic and our patients.”
