DMS Admission Application
Selection Criteria
Applicants for the DMS program will be ranked according to:
- Cumulative grade point average for all college level work
- Two (2) letters of recommendation (one must be from the applicant's radiography program director or employment supervisor)
- Personal interview
- Place of residence
- Selection preference is given to those who are near successful completion of the general education curriculum and the Imaging Sciences core courses.
(The above criteria are converted to a point system for ranking purposes)
Completion of ALL general education requirements and medical imaging core courses is highly recommended prior to enrollment in the professional curriculum of the Management or Diagnostic Medical Sonography majors.
Application Process
Admission to the UA Fort Smith BSIS-Sonography program is selective. In order to be considered for admission to the program students must:
- Complete the admission requirements to enter UA Fort Smith.
- Submit official college transcripts to UA Fort Smith (if applicable)
- Schedule an interview with the DMS Program Director to:
Review transcript(s)
Review and sign a degree plan
Provide admission criteria documentation of eligibility
Submit program application
- Submit unofficial transcripts from any college(s) previously attended to the DMS Program Director.
- Complete course registration form.

Degree Requirements

Student Health Statement/Medical Release Form
Students accepted into any of the College of Health Sciences program will be required to provide documentation of good physical and mental health by completing the Student Health Statement/Medical Release form. Documentation of all health problems and a medical release will be required. Copies of immunization records and a valid CPR certification must be submitted. No student will be allowed to attend a clinical rotation without the required health data records.
Residency Requirements
Thirty (30) of the last thirty-six credit hours of the BSIS program must be completed at UA Fort Smith.
Graduation Requirements
Upon successful completion of the program with a grade point average of 2.0 or better, a Bachelor of Science in Imaging Sciences degree is awarded. The student is responsible for providing the Records Office with evidence that the criteria for graduation have been met. The student should contact the Records Office in January for May graduation.
Progression
Students progress through the program by earning a grade of "C" or better in all general education courses and imaging sciences support and professional courses. In combined theory and clinical/lab experience courses, a passing grade of "C" or better must be received in order to pass the course. Students will be subject to the policies of UA Fort Smith, and in the case of unethical, illegal or unprofessional behavior, the imaging science faculty will investigate, impose any sanctions, and determine retention in the program.
Graduation is dependent on attaining all hours required by the degree and the university, all minimum proficiencies required by the university, and a grade point average of 2.0 or better. Any elective hours must be completed by graduation.
Grades for lecture and clinical experience requirements are consistent with Health Sciences policies and follow a scale of: A (93-100), B (84-92), C (75-83), F (below 75), W, IP and AU. Course graded materials and activities include, but are not limited to, scholarly papers, presentations, reports, exams, class participation, clinical performance, and evaluations. The grievance process for academic appeals follow UA Fort Smith and the Imaging Sciences policies outlined in the academic catalog and BSIS policy manual.
