Grants
Grants and scholarships are types of funding you receive for your education that you don't have to pay back. Some grants are awarded according to your financial need, some according to the number of hours enrolled, and some according to your major of study.
Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is available to students who demonstrate financial need. This is determined by filling out the FAFSA. The maximum award for the 2011-12 school year is $5,550, which is divided between the fall and spring semesters. Pell amounts also depend on the number of hours enrolled. For more information, visit the Federal Financial Aid website.
**SPECIAL NOTICE** Students can only receive a Pell Grant for the equivalent of 12 full-time semesters (6 years). The PELL awards are prorated, so a student that takes 6 hours each fall and spring semester would have 24 semesters. It is critical that you stay on track with your degree plan so that you complete your education before you run out of PELL eligibility.
All Pell awards are made on the assumption that you will be enrolled as a full-time student. Students taking fewer than 12 hours should consult the Pell Chart below to determine your actual payment amount.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The SEOG program is for students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. In order to be eligible, a student must have a "0 EFC" on his or her Student Aid Report. If you are eligible, we will automatically apply this grant to your account. Priority for this grant is reserve for those who complete their FAFSA earliest. For more information, visit the Federal Financial Aid website.
Higher Education Opportunities Grant (GO!)

Students can receive up to $4,000 per year if they are willing to teach at a low-income school in a high-need field (as defined by the federal government). You must fill out a FAFSA, as well as an Agreement to Serve and TEACH Grant Entrance Counseling.
